West Coast Eagle Ruckman Nic Naitanui soared at the WAFC Multicultural Gala Day at Tom Bateman Sports Complex in Thornlie. Naitanui, who is an Australia Post Multicultural Ambassador, discussed the Australia Post Multicultural Program, Bakari Royals Program, Bachar Houli Cup and Chung Wah Learn AFL Program.

Demons District Development Officer, Chris Brown interviewed Naitanui about the WAFC Multicultural Gala Day and his humble beginnings at Midvale JFC to Swan Districts Football Club and subsequent AFL stardom at the West Coast Eagles.

Naitanui said it was great to see people from different backgrounds experience AFL at the WAFC Multicultural Gala Day. “Diversity is what we’re preaching, so we’re just teaching kids the basic skills and getting them to experience the game through AFL 9s matches” said Naitanui.

Naitanui was backed by a smattering of West Coast Eagles stars including Chris Masten, Will Schofield, Xavier Ellis and rookie sensations Dom Sheed and Liam Duggan who signed autographs and posed for selfies. The WAFC Multicultural Gala Day saw more than 300 primary school students across WAFC Metro Central participate in an exhilarating AFL 9s Lightning Carnival.

The participating schools included AIC Kewdale, AIC Thornlie, Beckenham PS, Canning Lockridge PS and Parkwood PS. The WAFC Multicultural Gala Day is an inclusive affair which is designed to provide students from culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) backgrounds with pathways to surrounding junior community clubs. The WAFC Multicultural Gala Day was also delivered to more than 500 students at Morris Buzacott Reserve in Kardinya and MacDonald Park in Padbury.
