Blood Runs Blue

Past Perth Demons FC and Thornlie JFC starlet, Clem Smith has become the latest in a swathe of Demons to secure an AFL debut with his sizzling performance in the Carlton Blues FC strip against Richmond Tigers FC on the 2nd April. Smith, who was subbed in to replace the battle-scarred Dale Thomas in the 1st Quarter, clawed his way to 7 kicks, 4 handballs and 4 marks. Smith’s debut was the pinnacle of an electrifying junior community and WAFL career. In 2014, Smith produced a string of searing performances in the WA State 18s Carnival, which were backed by stunning displays for Perth Demons FC in the WAFL.

The mercurial small defender was subsequently snared by the Blues with Pick 60 in the 2014 NAB AFL National Draft. Despite his selection in the 4th round of the 2014 NAB AFL National Draft, Smith has been playing like a man possessed since the 2014 NAB Challenge, where his symbolic aggression and speed set the stage a blistering start to 2015. Smith blitzed the competition at the AFL Draft Combine, coming 1st in the AFL Draft Combine agility run and scoring 26/30 in the kicking test. The Demons District hopes Smith will continue to stalk the trail blazed by AFL superstars and past Wesley College students, Buddy Franklin and Sharrod Wellingham, by becoming the next Demons starlet to sizzle on the centre stage.
