Community Development Officer - Demons District

The West Australian Football Commission (WAFC) is the peak Australian Rules Football body in Western Australia and is the caretaker of football throughout the State and responsible for the overall development of the game. The WAFC is a not for profit organisation that plays an important role in funding the on-going development of football in all communities.

This ensures that football is the best resourced sporting code in the State and can have the most active role in building better communities through various development programs.  Due to the growth of participation, additional support is required in the Demons District to assist in the delivery and coordination of specific community development programs and events.

The Demons District is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated person to become a member of their staff as Community Development Officer. This position is situated at Lathlain Park and will be responsible for the delivery of AFL within the Demons District. Applicants should be prepared to be actively involved in all events and programs, whilst developing exciting new initiatives to promote AFL.

The position will report to the WAFC District Operations Manager and Demons District Community Football Officer.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Partnering and working with WAFC Community Football staff, community services, junior clubs and primary schools.
  • Developing relationships with stakeholders from community, corporate governmental bodies.
  • Delivering programs benefiting coaches, kindergartens, schools, volunteers and spectators including AFL 9s, Auskick, Eagles Faction Footy, Footy Fundamentals and Freo House Footy.
  • Assisting in the development of programs and events including Bachar Houli Academy, Bakari Demons Program, Demons Kids Program, Freo Dockers Cup, Junior Girls League, Kirby Bentley Cup, Little Demons Program, Multicultural Gala Day and Nicky Winmar Academy.

Essential selection criteria include:

  • Ability to interact confidently with groups of participants and stakeholders.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work after normal business hours and on weekends.
  • Experience in delivering Australian Rules football clinics and activities.
  • C Class or Bus Driver’s Licence.
  • Certificate IV Sport Development or related degree.
  • Working with Children (WWC) Check.
